Courts in Netherlands, Luxembourg turn down Gazprom’s appeals

KIEV, Jul 19 (PRIME) – The courts of the Netherlands and Luxembourg turned down on July 8 appeals by Russian gas giant Gazprom against forced fulfillment of rulings of the Stockholm arbitration court, Ukrainian energy holding Naftogaz Ukrainy said in a statement on Friday.

“The courts of the Netherlands and Luxembourg have turned down appeals by Gazprom on cases of forced execution of the rulings of the Stockholm arbitration court,” the company said.

“Besides, the District Court of the Luxembourg City decided in favor of Naftogaz on the same day. It repealed a claim by Gazprom and confirmed arrests of (assets) of the Russian company on the territory of the state in framework of forced execution of a ruling by the Stockholm arbitration court.”

In 2018, the Stockholm arbitration court ruled that Gazprom must pay Naftogaz Ukrainy U.S. $2.56 billion for non-shipment of gas. Gazprom appealed against the decision in March and in May demanded the full abolishment of the decision on gas transit.

Ukraine filed for enforcement of the fine’s collection in the courts of Switzerland, the U.K., and the Netherlands. Gazprom challenged all provisional measures under the filings.
